Brighter Lamp

Brighter Lighting built the world’s brightest floor lamp: 60,000 lumens, 95+ CRI, 2200K–6500K. $1,199. Launched on Indiegogo — oversubscribed, then sold out.

Their buyers run smart homes — Apple, Google, Alexa. They weren’t going to download another app for a lamp. Brighter needed Matter, and they needed a firmware partner who could handle hardware peripherals and the protocol layer.

What we did

We collaborated on the full firmware stack — hardware peripheral development through Matter certification as a Color Temperature Light (device type 0x010C) over Wi-Fi.

The hardest parts weren’t Matter. They were hardware.

The rotary encoder controls light position — rotate clockwise, brightness increases; counterclockwise, it decreases. At 60,000 lumens, a single missed pulse means a visible jump. The encoder produces high-frequency pulses that need precise counting, and the mechanical contacts introduce noise that looks like real pulses to a naive interrupt handler. We built an interrupt-driven pulse counter with debouncing tuned to the encoder’s specific contact bounce characteristics — sub-degree position accuracy, no missed pulses, no false triggers.

Dimming across 2200K–6500K has its own problem: PWM frequency. Too slow, and the light flickers — visible at 60,000 lumens, especially on camera. Too fast, and the LED driver’s switching circuit can’t keep up, causing efficiency loss and heat. We tuned the PWM frequency to sit in the narrow band where the driver switches cleanly across the full color temperature range — flicker-free at every brightness, every temperature.

Outcome

Matter-certified September 2025. Inside the box: a QR code on the lamp and a separate sticker. Scan it, and the lamp joins Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa — whatever they use. No app required.

The Indiegogo campaign sold out. Four production runs followed. The Matter badge turned a $1,199 lamp into a sellout in a crowded lighting market.
